Offshore time-zone lag
A question sent at 5 p.m. gets answered the next morning. A two-minute decision becomes a two-day delay, sprint after sprint.
We build the software your business runs on: SaaS platforms, lending and payments cores, apps and integrations. Our team works from Colombia, in a time zone that overlaps the US workday, ships in sprints and runs on an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality system.

A nearshore software development company designs, builds and maintains custom software from a country in or near your time zone. DataLab does it from Bogotá, Colombia (UTC−5), with Scrum and an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality system: discovery, architecture, UX/UI, sprint-based development, QA, launch and support, with real-time overlap with US business hours.

You pay for modules you never use and still have to bend your process to match the tool.
Your CRM, ERP, payment gateway and in-house platform keep separate data. Your team copies and pastes every day, and the errors reach customers.
Fuzzy scope, vendors who disappear after version one and deadlines that slide month after month with no credible date.
Process maps, business rules and user stories with acceptance criteria. You know what gets built first, and why.
Microservices or a monolith depending on your scale, cloud setup, data model and security controls, documented before a line of code is written.
Flows and screens validated with real users before development, so you never pay twice for the same module.
Web platforms, React Native or Flutter apps and admin panels, released in increments instead of one big delivery at the end.
Connections to your ERP, CRM, payment gateways, e-invoicing or third-party services, with documented APIs other teams can build on.
Functional and regression testing on every release, checked against the acceptance criteria agreed in the backlog.
Repository, technical documentation and user manuals delivered as agreed in the contract, so your business never depends on a single person.
Monitoring, incident fixes and new features after launch, with priorities agreed with you every month.
Interviews with the teams who will use the system, a review of your current tools and an assessment of your existing infrastructure. Output: written scope and a prioritized backlog.
User stories, business rules, integrations and technical architecture. We agree on what goes into version one and what waits for the next release.
A clickable prototype of the critical flows, tested with real users. We adjust before coding, while changes are still cheap.
Every sprint ends with a demo of working software. You prioritize the backlog with our Scrum Master and see real progress, not percentages in a status report.
Functional and regression testing, security review, data migration and a controlled deployment to the cloud you choose.
We monitor, fix incidents and keep iterating the product based on real usage and your business goals.
Stage timings are estimates: your project's schedule is set in the proposal.

Platforms and tools
We built origination, loan servicing, payments and microlending cores for Educapital, Starkapital and +Tendero. We know what a system that moves money every day demands.
Bogotá stays on UTC−5 all year: the same clock as New York in winter, one hour behind it in summer and two to three hours ahead of Los Angeles. Standups, sprint reviews and urgent fixes happen live, over video or chat, while your team is at work.
Audited processes within an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality management system, and Scrum as our way of working: short releases, frequent demos and a paper trail for every decision.
Beyond building your platform, DataLab can bring it users through SEO, paid media, analytics and CRM. Your software ships ready to be measured.
Fixed price and timeline for an MVP or a well-defined phase. Best when the problem is clear and you need a delivery date.
A product pod with a tech lead, developers, QA and design on a monthly fee. Best for products that evolve every month, like a SaaS or a fintech core.
A monthly bank of hours for maintenance, incidents and improvements on software that is already live.
Every proposal is built around your goals, scope and timeline. We send you a detailed quote at no cost.
Offshore teams in distant time zones can look cheaper on a rate card, but every question waits overnight and every urgent fix becomes a next-day fix. Nearshore software development services close that gap: your partner works while you work, so decisions, reviews and releases happen in the same business day. It also makes onboarding easier: the people writing your code join your planning sessions instead of just receiving tickets.
With DataLab, that means an engineering team in Bogotá on UTC−5, which matches US Eastern time in winter and Central time during daylight saving. You get live sprint ceremonies, direct chat with the people writing the code and a short flight if you want to meet in person. Final cost still depends on scope, team size and integrations, not on geography alone, which is why we scope before we quote.
| Factor | Onshore (US) | Nearshore (DataLab, Bogotá) | Offshore (e.g., India, Eastern Europe) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time difference with US Eastern | 0 to 3 hours | 0 to 1 hour (Bogotá stays on UTC−5) | 6 to 10.5 hours |
| Live overlap with a US workday | Full day | Most of the US workday, with the widest overlap on Eastern and Central time | Early mornings or late evenings only |
| Sprint ceremonies | Live | Live, during your hours | Recorded or split across shifts |
| On-site workshops | Domestic flight | Direct flights from several US hubs to Bogotá | Long-haul travel |
| What drives cost | US salaries | Scope, team size and seniority | Rate card plus coordination overhead |
| Best fit | Work that must happen on US soil | Products that change every sprint and need fast feedback | Well-specified work with few handoffs |
Much of our work is software that moves money, a sector we analyze in our guide to fintech in Colombia. For Educapital we built a SaaS transaction core for issuing, payments and portfolio risk: in 12 months it reached 50+ schools and 80,000+ successful transactions per month, and it helped the company raise more than USD 5 million. For Starkapital, which finances taxis and other public service vehicles, we built an origination-to-servicing core that handles more than COP 1 billion a month in lending operations.
For +Tendero we developed a microlending core with a weekly cycle: 600+ shopkeepers and more than COP 3 billion in loans issued. Outside fintech, UTMédica runs 5,000+ diagnostic imaging transactions per week on the SaaS we built, and Tovar Arquitectura gained full control and traceability of its construction oversight work. These are production systems with real users and real transactions, not prototypes.
Before you sign, ask for three things. First, live products similar to yours, with numbers you can verify. Second, a visible method: who prioritizes, how often you see working software and how scope changes get approved. Third, clear rules on source code ownership, cloud access and post-launch support. Be wary of a quote that arrives without questions about your process: if nobody understood the problem, the price isn't real either.
DataLab answers all three with SaaS platforms and fintech cores in production, Scrum with a demo at the end of every sprint and an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality management system. We sign an NDA, handle personal data under Colombia's data protection law (Law 1581 of 2012) and put code ownership, access and the support plan in writing from the proposal stage. The working language for ceremonies and documentation (English, Spanish or both) is agreed in your proposal. If you're still at the idea stage, start with product discovery; if you need one specific problem solved fast, we start with AI MVP development and grow in phases.
Fixed-scope projects have a fixed price and timeline; dedicated sprint teams and support retainers run on a monthly fee. The figure depends on the number of modules, integrations, platforms (web or mobile) and security requirements, so DataLab doesn't publish fixed rates: two projects with the same name can have very different scopes. After a short discovery, we send a proposal with scope, timeline and engagement model.
It depends on scope and how many integrations you need. For reference, our work with Starkapital, Educapital and UTMédica ran 10, 12 and 18 months respectively, with releases every sprint. A focused MVP with a few modules takes considerably less. Your proposal includes a phased timeline and exactly what you receive in each phase.
Ownership of the code, the data and the cloud accounts is defined in writing in the contract before work begins. We recommend that the repository, infrastructure and documentation sit under your company's name, so you can audit, scale or switch vendors without being locked into DataLab.
Yes. Before proposing an architecture, we assess your current stack: ERP, CRM, databases, payment gateways and third-party services. Integrations run through APIs or scheduled jobs and are fully documented, so your IT team knows which data moves, how often and under which controls.
Yes. DataLab builds iOS and Android apps with React Native or Flutter, usually connected to the same backend as the web platform. You keep one set of business logic, one admin panel and less code to maintain than with two separate native apps.
Nearshore software development means your team works from a nearby country in a similar time zone; offshore means a distant one, often 6 to 10.5 hours ahead of US Eastern time. DataLab's team in Bogotá stays on UTC−5 all year, so standups, sprint reviews and urgent fixes happen during your business day instead of overnight.
Your software keeps evolving. We offer support with monitoring, incident fixes and a monthly bank of hours for improvements, or a dedicated team if the product changes every month. Priorities are reviewed with you using real usage data, so the budget goes where it moves your operation most.
We sign an NDA, handle personal data under Colombia's Law 1581 of 2012 and grant each person only the access they need. Development follows secure coding practices, version control and separate staging and production environments, inside an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality system. Code ownership terms are set in the contract.
