Quick answer

What is marketing staff augmentation?

Marketing staff augmentation is a model in which a company adds marketing and sales professionals who work only for its brand, inside its own team, without putting them on its payroll. DataLab recruits, employs, supervises, trains and backfills nearshore talent in Colombia (UTC−5), and covers equipment, licenses, AI tools and effort tracking with Data People.

The problem

Problems we solve

✕ 01

Your team is stretched thin

Campaigns, content and launches pile up. Your people spend the day firefighting, and strategic work keeps slipping to next week.

✕ 02

Hiring marketers eats your calendar

Reviewing portfolios, testing writers, interviewing and negotiating pulls your leaders away from the work. And if the hire doesn't fit your brand, you start over.

✕ 03

Agencies that don't live your brand

Every brief starts from scratch, every tweak needs a quote and every rush job waits its turn, because the same team serves many clients.

✕ 04

Freelancers who come and go

Contractors rotate, shift your brand voice with every handoff and often keep hours far from yours, so a simple feedback loop stretches into days.

What's included

What you get with marketing staff augmentation

  1. Role and brand brief

We define responsibilities, seniority, tools and KPIs for each role with you, plus how your brand should look and sound in every post, asset or call.

  2. Vetting with real tests

We search our talent network and the wider market, run portfolio, writing or customer-service tests depending on the role, and you choose among the finalists.

  3. Employment handled by DataLab

DataLab signs the employment contract and takes care of payroll, administration and local labor compliance. You pay a monthly service fee, with no added headcount.

  4. Brand onboarding

Brand guidelines, products, audience, channels and access from day one, with a work plan agreed with your marketing or sales lead.

  5. Equipment, licenses and brand-trained AI

Depending on scope, we provide laptops, design and editing licenses and Krea.ia, DataLab's AI graphic production platform trained on your brand's visual library.

  6. Supervision, training and backfill

A DataLab lead oversees performance and quality, training is on us and a backfill protocol covers time off and departures.

  7. Data People

Effort tracking by activity type: design, content, community or sales management. See where the hours go and reset priorities with data.

  8. Agency backup when you need it

DataLab's strategy, art direction, paid media and analytics leads step in when your dedicated team needs them, within the agreed scope.

Ways to engage and how pricing works

Dedicated marketer or pod

One person or a small pod working only on your brand, for example a designer and a content specialist, supervised by DataLab. A fixed monthly fee: the limit is the workday, not a deliverables package.

Staff augmentation inside your team

Marketers or sales reps join your in-house team and follow your processes: you set goals and priorities, while DataLab handles employment, supervision, admin and backfill.

Direct-hire recruiting

We source and vet the marketing or sales professional you need, so you can hire them directly onto your own payroll.

Data People advisory

Effort tracking and analysis for your in-house team by activity type, to guide allocation and hiring decisions with data.

What drives the cost?

Every proposal is built around your goals, scope and timeline. We send you a detailed quote at no cost.

  • Role and seniority: a community manager is priced differently from a growth marketer or a creative motion designer.
  • Team size and allocation: full-time or part-time.
  • English proficiency, overlap with your working hours and experience in regulated industries such as banking, insurance or capital markets.
  • Equipment, licenses and AI tools DataLab provides, including Krea.ia.
  • Contract length and peaks for launches, seasons or events.
  • Support from the agency bench: strategy, art direction, paid media or analytics.

Marketing staff augmentation vs. an agency, freelancers or an in-house hire

There are four ways to add marketing capacity, and each one splits control and risk differently. An agency on a per-project fee or a retainer delivers finished work, but its people serve many clients and every change goes through a scope conversation. Freelancers handle isolated tasks, yet they rotate and rarely go deep on your brand. An in-house hire gives you full control, in exchange for recruiting, training, retaining and covering time off on your own.

Marketing staff augmentation sits in between. The people work only for your brand, join your team and follow your priorities, while DataLab owns hiring, supervision and backfill. You get the reach of an outsourced marketing team without the distance of a traditional agency. If you only need a single campaign, our content creation agency works per project. For a deeper look at the models, read our guide to what staff augmentation is.

An outsourced marketing department in your time zone

Our people are based in Colombia, so they share most of the US business day. They join your standups and answer in your team chat; campaign changes, approvals and community replies happen while your team is online. The working language, English, Spanish or both, is agreed for each role in your proposal.

Our digital marketing staff augmentation talent pool covers growth marketing, content specialists, creative motion designers, community managers and graphic designers, plus sales roles for front-desk service, calls and account management. Start with one person or build a pod: for example, a designer and a content specialist who publish every day, care for your community and meet monthly with your leadership. Need engineers instead? See IT staff augmentation. Want us to run your channels end to end? That is our social media management service.

Marketing outsourcing in practice: nuam, Envía and Rubbermaid

Since 2022, DataLab has worked with nuam, the holding company that integrates the Colombia, Lima and Santiago stock exchanges, under a dedicated services model. The goal was to bring investing closer to younger audiences. We built a regional digital team of 20+ people who work continuously on the brand, backed by the rest of the agency. The results: 250% growth in engagement and 700+ investment opportunities.

The model also works inside the client's office. For Envía, a regional B2B parcel delivery and logistics company, DataLab provides a full-time content specialist and a versatile designer who work on-site at its office: copy for social, email and LinkedIn, downloadable content, short video, motion and graphics. They come with DataLab equipment, licenses and AI tools, training and effort tracking with Data People, and their content feeds the B2B LinkedIn strategy DataLab also runs for Envía.

Continuity is the other proof point. For nearly 10 uninterrupted years, we've been the strategic marketing partner in Latin America for Rubbermaid Commercial Products. In that time we managed its paid media across the region for 5 years, with campaigns of about COP 300 million a year and ROI consistently above 15%, and implemented the brand's e-commerce, which reached 20,000+ orders in a single day (figures published in 2021). When the same people know your brand for years, the work gets sharper and you stop re-explaining the basics.

Frequently asked questions

Marketing staff augmentation: frequently asked questions

01

What marketing and sales roles can I add?

You can add growth marketers, content specialists, creative motion designers, community managers and graphic designers, plus sales reps for front-desk service, calls and account management. Start with one person or a pod that combines several roles. If you need a profile that is not on this list, we review it with you during discovery, before sourcing starts.

02

How is this different from your social media management service?

With social media management, DataLab runs your channels end to end and is accountable for that service. With marketing staff augmentation, you add professionals to your own team for whatever role you need, on social or beyond, and you set their priorities. DataLab employs, supervises, trains and backfills them.

03

Who manages the team day to day?

Your company sets the priorities, and each professional works inside your tools, meetings and calendar. DataLab handles everything else: employment, performance supervision, training, equipment and backfill. If you would rather have DataLab coordinate execution too, we scope it in the proposal as a dedicated pod supervised by the agency.

04

Can dedicated marketers work on-site or remotely?

Both. For US companies, the team works remotely from Colombia during your business day. In Colombia, it can also work full-time from the client's office: for Envía, a regional B2B parcel delivery company, DataLab provides a content specialist and a versatile designer who work on-site, with DataLab equipment, licenses and AI tools plus a training and performance plan. The model is agreed in your proposal.

05

Do your marketers work in English and on US hours?

The working language, English, Spanish or both, and the working hours are agreed in your proposal as part of each role brief. On timing, Colombia is on UTC−5 with no daylight saving time, so your dedicated marketing team shares most of the US business day: it matches Eastern time in winter and Central time in summer.

06

How much does a dedicated marketing team cost?

You pay a fixed monthly fee per person or per pod, with no payroll or benefits costs on your side. The amount depends on the role, seniority, allocation, the equipment and tools DataLab provides and how much strategy or art direction support you need. After discovery, we send a detailed proposal at no cost.

07

What happens if someone quits or takes time off?

DataLab follows a backfill protocol: another professional covers time off, and if someone leaves we find the replacement and run the handover. Brand documentation, written processes and ongoing supervision keep your content calendar and sales follow-up moving through every change.

08

How soon will I see results?

Onboarding time depends on how specialized the role is and whether the profile already exists in our talent network; the estimated timeline is written into the proposal. In marketing, first results usually show between six and eight weeks in, depending on how mature your channels are, and we review them every month.

09

Can I start with one person and grow into a full outsourced marketing department?

Yes. You can start with one critical role, such as a content specialist or a designer, and add people for a launch, a season or a new market. When the peak is over, the team scales back with no layoffs on your side. For nuam, for example, DataLab built a regional digital team of more than 20 people.

10

Which companies has DataLab worked with on dedicated marketing teams?

With nuam, for which we've built a regional digital team of more than 20 people since 2022; with Envía, where a content specialist and a versatile designer work on-site at its office; and with Rubbermaid Commercial Products, whose strategic marketing partner in Latin America we've been for nearly 10 uninterrupted years.
