Colmédica: a custom internal platform that gets every department involved
DataLab developed a custom internal platform for Colmédica that brings together a news timeline, real-time interactions, engagement features on posts and a points leaderboard by department, so internal communication drives participation, not just views.

Context
Colmédica is a healthcare company in Colombia. As in any organization with multiple departments, internal communication competes with day-to-day operations: posting isn't enough if information doesn't reach people or start a conversation. That's why an internal platform earns its value on something harder than informing: getting people to take part.
The challenge for Colmédica
The goal: a platform that isn't a one-way bulletin board, but a space where teams read, respond, interact and see how their department is doing compared with the rest. And to do it with a proprietary tool built around Colmédica's structure, instead of adapting a generic template that forces the organization to bend to the software.
The hypothesis
If the platform combines a news timeline, real-time interaction and a dose of friendly competition between departments (a points leaderboard), participation stops depending on goodwill and becomes visible and measurable.
What we did
- News timeline: internal updates flow in a chronological feed that is easy to scan from the very first visit.
- Real-time interactions: platform activity shows up and can be answered instantly.
- Engagement features on posts, so every piece of content gets a response, not just a view.
- Points leaderboard by department: each team's participation is visible and sparks healthy competition.
- Custom development by our Bogotá-based team instead of an off-the-shelf tool, so the platform fits Colmédica's department structure.
Results for Colmédica
This case has no publishable usage metrics, so we don't show any numbers. We read the results through what was delivered and published as a case study in 2021: an internal platform where sharing information, conversation and measuring participation happen in one place. The timeline organizes information, real-time and on-post interactions turn reading into conversation, and the department leaderboard gives participation a metric anyone in the organization can understand.

What we learned
An internal platform is measured by participation, not by the number of posts. When engagement is visible, for example on a department leaderboard, every team has a concrete reason to come back. It's a principle that carries over to any custom platform: design the behavior you want to measure first, then the screens.
